Box Score TIFFIN, Ohio— No. 7 seed Mount Union fell to No.6 seed Heidelberg in the first round of the Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Tournament, 84-80, Monday evening.
The Purple Raiders (10-16) had four players scoring in double-figures with freshman Isabella Pecchia (North Ridgeville/North Ridgeville) scoring a career-high 23 points.
Senior Nancy Osborne (North Canton/GlenOak) and junior Katie Reed (Alliance/Marlington) followed with 14 points each while senior Chandler Moore (Girard, Pa./Girard) ended the game with 13 points and nine rebounds.
Heidelberg (11-15), which advances to play at No. 3 seed Baldwin Wallace tomorrow night, had three players scoring in double-figures as Teresa Jackson came off the bench to score a game-high 29 points with 20 coming in the second half. Allie Hawkins and Kaye Brickner added 17 and 12 respectively.
Mount Union opened the game on a 13-2 run including a three-pointer for Osborne and three free throws for Reed.
Heidelberg cut the lead in half by converting on three Mount Union turnovers making the score 13-8 at the 14:57 mark. The Student Princes continued the run outscoring the Raiders 12-2.
Reed hit a three-pointer and then got a steal leading to a Moore three-pointer putting the Raiders up, 27-19.
The Raiders continued to apply pressure pushing a 17-4 run with Moore grabbing two offensive rebounds and seven points leading to a 20-point advantage.
The Student Princes threatened the lead with an 11-3 run closing out the first half, 47-35, in favor of Mount Union.
Osborne started the Raiders off in the second half with a three-pointer at the 19:26 mark.
Four straight points for Pecchia moved the Raiders to a 16-point advantage.
Four three-point plays for Heidelberg cut the Raider lead to four, 56-52, at the 15:03 mark.
Back-to-back jumpers for Pecchia and Abby Wemhoff (Kent/Kent Roosevelt) kept the Raiders ahead by six, 60-54.
Heidelberg tied the game—63-63—with a three-pointer from Kate Brickner at the 10:21 mark.
Osborne kept the Raiders in the lead with a three-pointer from Bova—66-63.
Eight straight points for Theresa Jackson put the Student Princes up, 73-69, at the 5:10 mark.
Pecchia tied the game with a jumper followed by a layup—73-73—with just under four minutes left to play.
Five more points for Jackson gave Heidelberg a three-point lead, 79-76, with 1:35 left to play.
A layup for Colleen Kennehan (Berlin Center/Western Reserve) cut the lead to one, 81-80, with just under a minute to play.
Heidelberg went on to defeat the Raiders, 84-80, in first round of the OAC Tournament.
