Men's Basketball: #19 Mount Union Beats Calvin to Get to NCAA Sweet 16

ALLIANCE, Ohio -- No. 19 ranked Mount Union defeated Calvin (Mich.) 81-69 in the second round of the 2015 NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship Saturday at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex in Alliance, Ohio.

The Purple Raiders (24-6), in the tournament for the second time in school history and first time since 1997, make the "sweet 16" for the second time.  Mount Union will play the winner of a matchup between No. 6 Augustana (Ill.) and DePauw (Ind.) at a site to be announced Sunday. 

Mount Union had four players in double figures as Nate Jacubec (Struthers/Struthers) had 19, Kyle Scelza (Stow/Stow) came off the bench with 16, DeAllen Jackson (Akron/Hoban) had 14 and Jarrett Ruffin (Northfield/Nordonia) had 11.

Jordan Daley had a game-high 21 for Calvin (22-7).

Mount Union jumped out to a 15-5 lead as Jacubec scored five of his seven first half points in the game's opening seven minutes. The Raiders extended that lead to 30-14 with 6:53 left in the half, before Calvin finished the half on a 16-8 run to make it a 38-30 Mount Union lead at the break.

The Knights cut the deficit to three, 40-37 with 18:09 remianing before the Raiders went on a 12-2 run that started with Ruffin dunk and was capped by a Scelza steal and layup run to take the lead back out to 13 points, 52-39.

Calvin only got the score within single digits once the rest of the way.
