ALLIANCE, Ohio – Mount Union's women's basketball team lost to John Carroll 90-83 in an Ohio Athletic Conference game Saturday.

Katie Reed (Alliance/Marlington) had a career-high 30 points and Annie Bova (Parma Heights/Beaumont) had 15 as the Purple Raiders fell to 11-4 overall and 5-3 in the OAC.

The Blue Streaks (9-6, 4-4 OAC) were led by Kaitlyn Spahar with a game-high 42 points.

Reed had 10 points in the first quarter as Mount Union ran out to a 28-15 lead.

The Raiders went on a 9-2 run in the second quarter to extend the lead to 37-17 with 5:40 to go in the period. John Carroll would answer with a 10-2 run over the next two minutes to close to within 12 points, 39-27 and the Raiders would eventually take a 12-point lead into the lockers, 45-33.

A Reed three-pointer with 6:31 to go in third quarter, pushed the Mount Union lead to 16 points, 57-41, and the Raiders led 72-61 at the end of the period.

Mount Union led 79-70 with just under six minutes to play when John Carroll scored 17 straight points to take an 86-79 lead with 1:23 left. The Raiders scored four straight to close to within three, 86-83 with 37 seconds left but Spahar went 4-for-4 from the line to seal the win.

Mount Union closes out the first half of the OAC schedule next Wednesday, Jan. 20 at 7:30 p.m. at Marietta.
