Box Score MARIETTA, Ohio - Mount Union's volleyball team defeated Marietta Tuesday, October 11 in Marietta, Ohio.
Mount Union (13-6, 2-2 OAC) defeated Marietta (14-11, 0-4 OAC) in straight sets 25-19, 25-13,25-13. The Purple Raiders were strong at the net with 13 blocks while the Pioneers had zero as sophomore Mary Beth Keck (Strongsville/St. Joseph Academy) had nine of those 13 blocks on the night.
Sophomore Sabrina Ochoa (North Royalton/Padua) led the offense with seven kills while junior Riley Schenk (Lorain/Amherst Steele) led in assists with 19. Sophomore Allison Baird (North Royalton/North Royalton) led the defense with 23 digs.
In the first set, the Raiders trailed the Pioneers by three points early in the set, 6-3. Mount Union tied Marietta three times before taking the lead, 12-11. Three more ties occurred before freshman Megan Donegan (Dublin/Dublin Coffman) went on a 4-0 service run to put the Raiders up 21-16. Mount Union finished off the set 25-19.
Mount Union went on a 6-2 run in the beginning of the second set, with a 4-0 service run by junior Morgan Chapman (Seven Fields,Pa./Seneca Valley). The Raiders kept a three point gap early in the set until the Pioneers brought it within one point, 10-9. Mount Union did not let that stop them going on a 6-0 run with kills by senior Caitlyn Synek (Independence/Independece) and Chapman. The second set went to the Raiders winning 25-13.
The third set started off close but the Raiders went on a 7-3 run leading the Pioneers 11-5. Mount Union did not let Marietta come within four points of them throughout the rest of the set. Schenk pushed to finish with a 5-0 service run putting the Raiders up 19-7. Mount Union closed out the set defeating Marietta 25-13 to win the match.
Mount Union hosts Capital Saturday, October 15 at 1:00 PM in the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex in Alliance, Ohio.
