ALLIANCE, Ohio - Mount Union's volleyball team defeated Muskingum Tuesday, October 18 at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex in Alliance, Ohio.

Mount Union (14-6, 3-2 OAC) defeated Capital (5-18, 1-4 OAC) in straight sets 25-21, 25-19, and25-21. The Purple Raiders were led by junior Mallory Sliman (Amerst/Amherst Steele) with six kills, two blocks and 16 digs while fellow junior Brooke Knollman (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) added five kills.

Junior Riley Schenk (Lorain/Amherst Steele) led in assists with 15 with sophomore Allison Baird (North Royalton/North Royalton) led the defense with 19 digs.

The first set consisted of 13 ties and five lead changes. The Raiders and Muskies kept it close throughout the entire set, until Mount Union pushed through the last tie, 21-21, to finish the set with a four attack errors by Muskingum, 25-21.

Mount Union pushed for a 3-1 lead early in the set until Muskingum tied it at 5-5. There were five ties until the Raiders pulled for a 14-10 lead. A 6-0 service run from senior Kelly Johnson put the Raiders up by seven points, 20-13. Muskingum tried to get back in the set with a 4-0 service run of their own but a kill by Sliman and two service aces from junior CeCe Barrett (University Heights/Hathaway Brown) finished it off 25-19.

Muskingum started off the third set with a 4-0 run, but Mount Union did not let them keep that lead for long tying up the set and pushing for a one point lead. There were five more ties throughout the middle of the set until a small 3-0 service run by junior Elise Nickoli (Monroeville/Norwalk St. Paul) pushed the Raiders to a 19-16 lead. The Muskies brought it back within one, 21-20 until two attack errors by Muskingum and kills by sophomore Kyleigh Jackson (Galloway/Westland) and senior Caitlyn Synek (Independence/Independence) ended the set 25-21.

Mount Union hosts Ohio Wesleyan Friday, October 21 at 7:00 PM for a non-conference matchup in the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex in Alliance, Ohio.
