Box Score WILMINGTON, Ohio - Mount Union's volleyball team defeated Wilmington Saturday, October 22 in Wilmington, Ohio.
Mount Union (16-7, 5-2 OAC) defeated Wilmington (2-22, 0-6 OAC) in straight sets 25-18, 25-22, 25-9. The Purple Raiders were led by junior Mallory Sliman (Amherst/Amherst Steele) who had nine kills and nine digs. Senior Cailtyn Synek (Independence/Independence) added seven kills and hit a .636 hitting percentage while junior Brooke Knollman (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) tabbed six kills and had a .667 percentage.
Defensively for the Raiders, sophomore Allison Baird (North Royalton/North Royalton) led with 18 digs and junior Riley Schenk (Lorain/Amherst Steele) led in assists with 20.
In the first set, there was only one tie, as Mount Union led Wilmington the whole way with a .300 hitting percentage. Synek had five of the Raiders 16 kills with a .833 hitting percentage.
The second set started off close with Wilmington taking a two point lead on Mount Union, 5-3. There were five more ties until the Raiders pulled away from the Fightin' Quakers with a 14-12 lead with help from Baird who had a 3-0 service run. Mount Union kept no less than a two point lead over Wilmington the rest of the way taking the second set from the Fightin' Quakers 25-22.
After a slow start in the third set, the Raiders took a 13-3 lead over Wilmington with an 11-0 service run from Baird. Mount Union did not trail the rest of the set and defeated Wilmington in the third, 25-9. The Raiders hit a .346 hitting percentage throughout the third set and had 13 kills as the Fightin' Quakers hit a .000 and only had five kills.
Mount Union travels to University Heights Tuesday, October 25 at 7 PM to take on OAC opponent John Carroll.
