Box Score NEW CONCORD, Ohio – No. 1 ranked Mount Union finished the road portion of the 2016 regular season with a 44-0 win over Muskingum in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup Saturday at McConagha Stadium.
Mount Union (9-0, 8-0 OAC) can clinch its 25th straight OAC title with a win against No. 20 ranked John Carroll next Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Mount Union Stadium.
Freshman quarterback Dom Davis (Akron/St. Vincent-St. Mary) made his fourth straight start, threw for over 300 yards for the second time over that span as he completed 17-of-24 passes for 320 yards and two touchdowns.
Jared Ruth (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) had four catches for 83 yards with a score as Davis completed passes to nine different Purple Raiders.
Bradley Mitchell (Detroit, Mich./South Lake) rushed for three scores as he had 11 carries for 62 yards while Eliott Nero (Hookstown, Pa./Weirton Madonna, W.Va.) ran for a game-high 71 yards on 11 carries.
Zach Deerr (Miami, Fla./Felix Varela) had eight tackles and a sack to lead a Raider defense that had six sacks on the day.
Muskingum (3-6, 2-6 OAC) was held to 149 yards as quarterback Griffin Degener was 9-of-22 passing for 75 yards and rushed for 22 yards on 20 carries.
Mitchell had a pair of rushing touchdowns of seven and 12 yards on the Raiders first two drives and the Raiders were out to a 14-0 lead.
Davis finished the quarter with 45-yard touchdown pass to Jared Ruth and Mount Union led 21-0 at the end of the first.
Mount Union had two turnovers inside the Muskingum 10-yard line on its first two possessions of the second quarter.
Mitchell got his third rushing touchdown of the day right before halftime to give the Raiders a 28-0 lead at the break.
On the Raiders first second half possession, Davis threw a long pass that was intercepted inside the Muskies' 10-yard line and on the very next play Dashon Redman (Steubenville/Steubenville) tackled Degener in the end zone for a safety that pushed the lead to 30-0.
Davis tossed his second TD pass of the day – this time to Zach Herrington (Wintersville/Steubenville Catholic Central) that took the score to 37-0 at the end of the third quarter.
Backup quarterback Donovan Taitt (Snellville, Ga./Loganville Christian) finished the scoring with a 10-yard touchdown pass to Cole Moxie (Miramar, Fla./Cypress Bay).
