Box Score TIFFIN, Ohio- Mount Union's men's basketball team made a season-best 13 three-pointers in a 95-83 win at Heidelberg in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup Saturday in Tiffin.
Twelve of makes from beyond the arc came from three Purple Raiders as JJ Kukura (Alliance/Alliance), DeAllen Jackson (Akron/Hoban) and Tommy Stenger (North Canton/Hoover) each made four three's.
Kukura finished with a game-high 31 points along with eight rebounds and six assists, Jackson added 21 points and seven rebounds while Stenger came off the bench for a career-high 16.
Mount Union has now won four of its last five games and is 7-2 overall and 3-1 in the OAC.
Heidelberg got 24 points from Kiere Bennie as the Student Princes fall to 6-4 overall and 2-2 in the OAC.
The Raiders hit five three pointers in the game's opening eight minutes to jump out to a 24-4 lead. Heidelberg answered with a 18-6 run to get back to within eight points, 30-22, with 5:30 left in the first half. Mount Union would steady things and took a 42-31 lead into halftime.
Mount Union put the game away opening the second half on a 14-6 surge to extend the lead to 56-37 with 16 minutes to go. Heidelberg got no closer than 12 points the rest of the way.
The Raiders next host the Mount Union Holiday Classic Dec. 29-30 at the MAAC. Mount Union will play Wilkes (Pa.) at 7 p.m. on Dec. 29 and then play either Hope (Mich.) or Williams (Mass.) on Dec. 30.
