Box Score ALLIANCE, Ohio- Mount Union men's basketball team earned their first Ohio Athletic Conference win of the season over Wilmington 84-79 with help from Miles Griffin (Massillon/Massillon Jackson) who hit his career-high.
Griffin led the Purple Raiders (5-1, 1-0 OAC) with 23 points as four other Raiders scored in double-digits. DeAllen Jackson (Akron/Archbishop Hoban) had 16 points, Thomas Mason (Alliance/Marlington) and JJ Kukura (Alliance/Alliance) each posted 11 points and Andrew Francesconi (Tallmadge/Tallmadge) tabbed 10 points for Mount Union.
Wilmington (3-3, 0-1 OAC) got 15 points from two players, Christian Jones and Will Patrick as they drop to 3-3 on the season.
The Quakers started off with a 10-4 run early in the first half. Mount Union came back with their own 11-3 run to take a 15-13 lead over Wilmington with 13:30 left to go.
Another Wilmington run put the Quakers ahead of the Raiders 23-16 with nine minutes to go. Mount Union tied it back up at 28 with five minutes left until the break.
A lay-up by Tommy Stenger (North Canton/Hoover), pushed a 7-2 run by the Raiders to get their lead back, 35-30. Mount Union went into halftime up 40-36 over Wilmington.
A 12-2 run in the beginning of the second half gave the Quakers a six point lead over the Raiders, 48-42. Mount Union got their own 13-4 run to get their lead back, 59-57, with 8:50 remaining in the game.
There were three ties and two lead changes in the last four minutes of the game as the Raiders took an 81-79 lead over the Quakers with 50 seconds left. Mount Union kept their lead not allowing Wilmington to score in the last 50 seconds, defeating the Quakers 84-79.
Mount Union will travel to University Heights to take on John Carroll Wednesday, December 7 at 7:00 p.m.
