Box Score UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio- Mount Union's men's basketball team lost to Ohio Athletic Conference opponent John Carroll, 91-89, Wednesday night as DeAllen Jackson (Akron/Hoban) hit his career-high.
Jackson led the Purple Raiders (5-2, 1-1) with 35 points and nine rebounds. JJ Kukura (Alliance/Alliance) tabbed 13 points as Thomas Mason (Alliance/Marlington) and Tommy Stenger (North Canton/Hoover) each added 12 points for the Raiders
John Carroll (2-4, 1-1) got 18 points from Ryan Berger .
Four ties and 13 lead changes occurred in the first half of the game as the Blue Streaks had an early 7-2 run. Eight points from Mason helped put the Raiders up by one, 10-9, with 15 minutes to go.
An 8-3 run by the Raiders at the six minute mark put Mount Union up, 28-24, their biggest lead of the half.
John Carroll tied it back up at 28, but Mount Union pulled for a 38-31 lead with five of those points from Nathan Bower-Malone (Stow/Stow). The Raiders led the Blue Streaks in the last five minutes going into the break up by one, 48-47.
An early 12-0 run in the second half for John Carroll gave them a 59-48 lead over Mount Union.
Two back to back three pointers by Jackson started a 12-2 run for the Raiders to come within one point of the Blue Streaks, 63-62, with 12:50 minutes left.
Mount Union got their lead back, 69-68, with a lay-up by Jackson. With two ties and a big run, the Blue Streaks came back a pushed for a 79-73 lead with just eight minutes to go.
A Bower-Malone three-pointer pushed a 10-3 run by the Raiders to get within three points, 87-84, with 2:02 remaining.
Another three point shot by Jackson put the Raiders down by two, 87-89, with 40 seconds left. Mount Union could not push past the Blue Streaks as they lost 91-89.
Mount Union hosts Ohio Northern in an OAC contest Saturday, December 10 at 2:00 p.m. in the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.
