ALLIANCE, Ohio- Mount Union's women's basketball team defeated Marietta 82-67 in an Ohio Athletic Conference game Wednesday night at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex. 

Annie Bova (Parma Heights/Beaumont) scored a game-high 18 points, Katie Reed (Alliance/Marlington) added 17 and Sarah Grippi (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) came off the bench with 10 as the Purple Raiders are now 15-6 overall and 9-5 in the OAC.

The Pioneers (11-11, 5-10 OAC) were led by Corrie Burkhardt with 15 points. 

Marietta led 9-6 with just over five minutes left in the first quarter when the Raiders would go on a 13-0 run highlighted by back-to-back three pointers from Rachel Tinkey (Canfield/Canfield) to take a 19-9 lead.  Mount Union would score six of the next nine points to end the quarter with a 25-12 lead. 

The Raiders would increase the lead to as many as 16 points when Reed hit a three with 7:06 left in the second quarter to make the score 33-17.  Mount Union would lead 44-32 at the break.

Any chance of a comeback would be dashed early in the third quarter as Mount Union opened the third quarter with a 14-6 surge capped by a Shayna Panchik (Natrona Hts., Pa./St. Joseph) three that pushed the lead to 58-36. The Raiders held a double-digit lead the rest of the way.

Mount Union hosts Heidelberg Saturday, Feb. 13 at 3 p.m. in the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex and the senior class will be honored before tip-off.
