Box Score TIFFIN, Ohio -- No. 23 ranked Mount Union suffered an 87-70 loss at Heidelberg in an Ohio Athletic Conference men's basketball game Saturday in Tiffin.
Kyle Scelza (Stow/Stow) led with 21 points and Jarrett Ruffin (Northfield/Nordonia) had 17 at the Purple Raiders fall to 15-7 overall and 11-4 in the OAC.
Kiere Bennie had a game-high 22 points for Heidelberg as the Student Princes had four others in double figures to improve to 12-11 overall and 7-9 in the OAC.
Ruffin scored seven of the Raiders first 13 points as Mount Union had a 13-9 lead with 13:39 left in the first half.
Heidelberg then scored six straight and took its first lead on a layup from Bennie at the 10:21 mark, 17-16.
Mount Union answered with an 11-3 run to take a 27-20 lead but The Berg finished the half on a 19-9 surge and led 39-36 at the break.
An 8-2 Heidelberg run to start the second half extended the lead to as many as eight points and the Student Princes never looked back.
Mount Union is back in action on Monday, February 15 when the Raiders travel to Muskingum. Game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start in New Concord.
