Box Score COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Mount Union's men's basketball team snapped a two-game skid with a 75-70 Ohio Athletic Conference victory at Capital Saturday in Columbus.
The Purple Raiders, now 10-5 overall and 5-3 in the OAC, got a game-high 21 points from JJ Kukura (Alliance/Alliance) while DeAllen Jackson (Akron/Hoban) had seven of his 17 points during a decisive 14-2 run early in the second half.
There were five lead changes and two ties in the first three mintues of the second half that left the score 38-38. Jackson then capped a 14-2 Mount Union run with five straight points that gave the Raiders a 52-40 lead with 13 minutes left.
Capital (9-6, 4-4 OAC) rallied to within four with 10 seconds to play but got no closer as Tyrell Jackson had 18 points to lead the Crusaders.
Capital jumped out to an 8-3 lead in the game's opening five minutes and led 17-13 when the Raiders answered with a 14-4 run capped by a Nathan Bower-Malone (Stow/Stow) three-pointer that made it 27-21 with 6:35 left in the period. The Crusaders finished the half on a 9-2 run to lead 30-29 at the break.
Mount Union returns home to host Muskingum in an OAC matchup Wednesday, Jan. 18 at 7 p.m. at The MAAC.
