Women's Basketball: Mount Union Snaps Baldwin Wallace's Perfect Record; Bartoszewicz Records Career-High 25 Points

Box Score

BEREA, Ohio - The Mount Union women's basketball team snapped Baldwin Wallace's 11-game unbeaten streak after senior Abbey Bartoszewicz (Wexford, Pa./Vincentian Academy) recorded a career-high 25 points, leading the Purple Raiders to a 72-62 victory Wednesday night.

Bartoszewicz went 8-10 on three-pointers, recording 24 of her 25 total points from beyond the perimeter. Her last career-high scoring total was set at 22 points earlier this season against New Paltz (N.Y.) on Nov. 19.

Sophomore Rachel Tinkey (Canfield/Canfield) recorded 12 points from the bench for Mount Union (8-4, 3-2 OAC), while junior Erin White (West Chester/Lakota East) led the Raiders with eight rebounds.

The Yellow Jackets' Sydney Clark paced Baldwin Wallace (11-1, 4-1 OAC) with 19 points and eight rebounds.

Baldwin Wallace jumped to an early 14-2 lead over the Purple Raiders mid way through the first quarter. A three-point jump-shot by Tinkey kicked off an 11-4 run by Mount Union, leading the Raiders to tie the game at 16 points with 32 seconds remaining in the period. An end-of-period jump-shot by Baldwin Wallace's Mackenzie Colombo would have Mount Union trailing 18-16.

Mount Union took the lead (21-18) 59 seconds into the second quarter after Bartoszewicz made a three-point jump-shot. Baldwin Wallace came within three points of Mount Union, the closest they would be for the rest of the game, but a 26-12 run by the Raiders had the Yellow Jackets trailing by 12, 42-30, at the break.

Bartoszewicz recorded four of her eight three-pointers in the third quarter, totaling 16 of the Raiders 25 points. Mount Union outscored Baldwin Wallace 25-17 in the third quarter, leading by as few as 10 points and many as 20 on two separate occasions.

Baldwin Wallace held Mount Union to just five points in the final quarter of play, but the Raiders were able to hold on to the lead, resulting in a final score of 72-62.

Mount Union travels to Westerville, Ohio to play Otterbein in an OAC matchup on Saturday, Jan. 7 at 3 p.m.
