Box Score ALLIANCE, Ohio- Mount Union men's basketball team fell to Ohio Athletic Conference opponent Otterbein, 86-84, Saturday afternoon as they fall 9-4 overall and 4-2 in the OAC.
Four Purple Raiders were in double figures as DeAllen Jackson (Akron/Hoban) led the pack with 29 points, six rebounds and five assits as JJ Kukura (Alliance/Alliance) had a double double with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Andrew Francesconi (Tallmadge/Tallmadge) matched his career high with 13 points as Nathan Bower-Malone (Stow/Stow) added 11 points.
Otterbein got 28 points from Matt Hughes as they improve to 7-6 overall and 3-3 in the OAC.
The Cardinals led the Raiders in the first five minutes of the game as Mount Union got their first lead, 10-9, at the 14:30 mark with a three-pointer from Kukura.
Otterbein pushed for a four point lead, as Mount Union then went on an 8-2 run to earn a four point lead over the Cardinals, 23-19, with six minutes remaining.
A 6-3 run from the Cardinals tied the game up at 26 with 3:15 left in the first half. Four points from Jackson put the Raidres up 32-29 with 1:15 left as Otterbein hit a buzzer beating three-pointer to go into the break tied at 32.
The Cardinals came out of the break on a 10-4 run to get a 42-36 lead over the Raiders with 17 minutes to go.
Another Raiders run tied the game up, 50-50, with 10:45 remaining in the game. Three made free-throws by Jackson put Mount Union up by three, 53-50.
The Cardinals went on a 9-2 run with three minutes remaining to lead the Raiders by four, 68-64.
The Raiders answered with their own 7-0 run putting them up by one point, 69-68, with 6.5 seconds left. A three-pointer by the Cardinals, Corey Howard, tied the game up 71-71 to go into overtime.
Otterbein came out in overtime with a 9-3 run, leading Mount Union by six, 80-74. A three-pointer by Tommy Stenger (North Canton/Hoover) brought the game within three points, 80-77, with 1:49 remaining.
Mount Union pushed back with to get within one point of Otterbein, 82-81, with 13.9 second to go in overtime. Four made free throws by the Cardinals put them up 86-81 as they defeated Mount Union 86-84.
The Raiders take on the Marietta Pioneers Wednesday, January 11 at 7:00 p.m in Marietta, Ohio.
