COLUMBUS, Ohio - Mount Union women's volleyball team defeated Capital in straight sets on Saturday afternoon from the Capital Center. The Purple Raiders (20-3, 4-1 OAC) went 25-17, 25-14, and 25-20 against the Crusaders (9-16, 1-4 OAC).

On offense, senior Brooke Knollman (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) led the way with 14 kills. Senior setter Riley Schenk (Lorain/Amherst Steele) was successful once again on offense as she dished out 28 assists.

Defensively, Mount Union recorded a total of 51 digs; 24 of those digs were from junior libero Allison Baird (North Royalton/North Royalton) and senior Celia Barrett (University Heights/Hathaway Brown) who each had 12. At the net, junior Kyleigh Jackson (Galloway/Westland) recored a season high of six blocks. Also with a season high was Knollman who had five of her own.

Errors were unkind on both ends as the first set got out to a slow start. Keeping the difference at just one point, the Raiders were able to carry a 8-0 run once they were tied with the Crusaders at 13. Mount Union went on to win the first set 25-17; Knollman recorded a perfect hitting percentage with five kills off five attempts.

Second set, the Raiders got out on top quick with a 5-0 lead. The Crusaders would put together a series of runs, but a dominant 11-point Mount Union lead would be too much to come all the way back from. Mount Union won the set 25-14.

In the final set, Capital kept a frequent two point lead over Mount Union. After a series of long volleys, the Raiders were able to secure their lead at 21-18, going on to win the set at 25-20.
