Box Score

ALLIANCE, Ohio - The Mount Union women's basketball team lost to Wilmington (4-1, 1-0 OAC) in their OAC opener at home Saturday afternoon.

The Purple Raiders (2-4, 0-1 OAC) were led by sophomore Caitlin Tytler (North Canton/Massillon Jackson) who came off the bench with 17 points and 10 rebounds, both career highs. Tytler was joined by freshman Elena Rauhe (Seven Hills/Padua Franciscan) who came off the bench as well with 14 points as she went 4-4 from the foul line, also tabbing a career high.

Mount Union kept Wilmington within five through the first few minutes of play. Sharp shooting by the Quakers allowed them to get a 13-4 run over the Raiders as they would go into the second quarter with the lead at 30-16.

The Raiders came into the second quarter with speed as they would cause the Quakers to turn the ball over and go on a 18-8 run. With less than a minute remaining, Mount Union was able to cut Wilmington's lead to just four points after once being down by 15. Raiders would outscore the Quakers 20-10 in the quarter.

In the third, Mount Union and Wilmington would go bucket for bucket, with a couple free throws in between as the Quakers would contain their lead over the Raiders with 3:43 remaining. A three-pointer by Wilmington would bump their lead to double digits, until a coast-to-coast layup by sophomore Tori Rappach (Warren/Howland) with nine seconds remaining would close out the quarter at 57-49, Quakers leading.

Final ten minutes of play, offensive rebounds would get Mount Union a number of second and even thrid chance opportunities down low. A personal seven-point run by Rauhe would get the Raiders closer to the Quakers at 65-62 with 2:30 left in the game. Wilmington continued to be hot-handed as they would close out the game with a final score of 75-67.

Mount Union will next travel to University Heights to face the John Carroll Blue Streaks on Wednesday, December 6 at 7:30 pm.
