Box Score ALLIANCE, Ohio- Mount Union's men's basketball team rallied from 19 down at halftime to tie the game with a minute to go but eventually lost to No. 13 in the nation Marietta, 82-75, in an Ohio Athletic Conference game Wednesday at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.
The Purple Raiders (11-9, 6-7 OAC) had three players in double figures as sophomore Jeff Foreman (Mentor/Mentor) came off the bench with a season-high 16 points while freshman Nathan Bower-Malone (Stow/Stow) and senior DeAllen Jackson (Akron/Hoban) each posted 14 and 13 points respectively.
Marietta got a game-high 23 points from A.J. Edwards as they improve to to 16-4 overall and 11-2 in the OAC
The Raiders took a 9-5 lead over the Pioneers early in the first half, until Marietta came back and went up, 23-14, with 11 minutes before halftime.
Mount Union then went on a 5-0 run to get within four points but Marietta answered with a 13-0 run to extend the lead over the Raiders, 32-19, at the 6:35 mark. Marietta continued and went into the break up 19 points, 45-26.
The Pioneers went up, 55-33, with 15 minutes remaining in the second half before Mount Union answered with a 10-0 run to make it 57-43.
Three-pointers by Foreman and Bower-Malone brought the Raiders back within seven points, 63-56, at the 8:20 mark and an 8-0 run for the Raiders got them within one point of the Pioneers, 71-70, with 2:50 remaining.
Another Foreman three-pointer tied the game at 73 with 1:50 to go in the game. After a layup for Marietta, Tommy Stenger (North Canton/Hoover) tied the game up again at 75 with 1:07 remaining. Edwards then went down and drove the lane made a shot and was fouled to spark a 7-0 Marietta run to finish the game.
Mount Union next hosts Capital Saturday, Feburary 4 at 2 p.m. in Allliance.
