Box Score ALLIANCE, Ohio - Five Purple Raiders scored in double-digits as Mount Union men's basketball team lost to Ohio Athletic Conference opponent Heidelberg, 97-94, in overtime Saturday afternoon at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.
The Raiders (13-10, 8-8 OAC) were led by DeAllen Jackson (Akron/Hoban) with 21 points while Nathan Bower-Malone (Stow/Stow) was right behind him with 18 points.
Andrew Francesconi (Tallmadge/Tallmadge) and Tommy Stenger (North Canton/Hoover) each posted 15 points while Diallo Niamke (Sagamore Hills/Nordonia) put up 10 points.
Heidelberg got 28 points from Kiere Bennie as they improve to 10-13 overall and 6-10 in the OAC.
The entire first half was played within a four point spread as the Student Princes went into the break leading the Raiders, 38-37.
Five lead changes occurred in the first five minutes of the second half. A 14-4 run by the Raiders, including two back to back threes from Stenger and Jeff Foreman (Mentor/Mentor), gave Mount Union a 56-48 lead over Heidelberg at the 10:33 mark.
A six point run for the Student Princes brought them back within four points of the Raiders, 67-63 with 5:50 remaining in the half.
Heidelberg tied the game up, 79-79, with 40 seconds remaining in the game. A foul by the Raiders put the Student Princes at the line, as Heidelberg made both their free throws. With four seconds remaining, Bower-Malone put up a lay-up to tie the game at 81 pushing the game into overtime.
With three ties and two lead changes, the Student Princes pushed for a four point lead, 91-87, with 1:10 remaining in overtime. The Raiders brought it back within two points, 96-94, but Heidelberg pulled it out defeating Mount Union 97-94.
Mount Union next travels to Berea, Ohio to take on Baldwin Wallace Wednesday, February 15 at 7:00 pm.
