Box Score NEW CONCORD, Ohio- DeAllen Jackson (Akron/Hoban) hit his 1,000 career point as well as a career high in Mount Union's 117-111 triple overtime Ohio Athletic Conference win over Muskingum Wednesday in New Concord.
Jackson, who became the 30th player in school history with over 1,000 career points, led the Purple Raiders with 36 points and 10 rebounds as Mount Union improved to 13-9 overall and 8-7 in the OAC.
The Raiders had six other double digit scorers as Nathan Bower-Malone (Stow/Stow) had 17, Tommy Stenger (North Canton/Hoover) and D'Vontay Friga (Cuyahoga Falls/Cuyahoga Falls) both scored 12 while Thomas Mason (Alliance/Marlington), Andrew Francesconi (Tallmadge/Tallmadge) and Diallo Niamke (Sagamore Hills/Nordonia) each put up 10 points.
It was the first triple overtime game for Mount Union in 30 years dating back to a 98-96 home loss to Allegheny (Pa.) during the 1986-87 season.
Muskingum got 38 points from Marcus Dempsey as they fall to 12-10 overall and 7-8 in the OAC.
Nine lead changes and five ties occurred in the first half as the Raiders started off with an 8-5 lead early. The Fighting Muskies tied the game up three times until getting a two point lead over Mount Union, 12-10, at the 14:47 mark.
A 10-4 run for Mount Union put them up by six points, 24-18, with 10:04 remaining. Muskingum answered with an 8-0 run to get a 30-29 lead. The Raiders went into the break leading the Fighting Muskies, 41-39.
Muskingum went on an 11-4 run in the first six minutes of the second half to lead Mount Union by five points, 50-45.
Stenger tied the game up at 54 with three point shot as the Raiders rallied for a three point lead over the Fighting Muskies, 57-54, with 7:51 remaining.
Muskingum brought the game back within one point, 67-66, but a big three-point shot from Jackson put the Raiders up by four, 70-66, with 1:47 to go. The Fighting Muskies tied it at 73-73 to push the game into overtime.
The Fighting Muskies started overtime with two three point shots to get a five point lead over Mount Union, 78-73. Down by three with 10 seconds remaining, Jackson hit a three-point shot to tie the game at 88-88 as the Raiders and Fighting Muskies went into double overtime.
Four ties and four lead changes made up double overtime as Muskingum hit a jumpshot with one second left to tie the game at 101 going into triple overtime.
The Raiders started triple overtime down by two, but pushed back to get a seven point lead over Muskingum 113-106. Mount Union led the Fighting Muskies the rest of the way winning the game 117-111.
