ALLIANCE, Ohio -- In a game that Mount Union won in the statsheet, they lost on the scoreboard. Mount Union's men's soccer team opened Ohio Athletic Conference play at Mount Union Stadium with a 1-0 loss against Ohio Northern (7-2-1, 1-0).

The Purple Raiders (4-5, 0-1) had opportunities on goal as they outshot the Polar Bears 13-10 and outnumbered ONU in corner kicks 8-7. 

Senior Jon Schroeder (Parma/Normandy) and sophomore Brian Belz (North Royalton/North Royalton) each had three shots for the Raiders. 

The only goal of the game came in the 10th minute on an unassisted goal from Ohio Northern's Joseph Schulte on a 25 yard strike.

Sophomore goalie Zach Hlas (Medina/Medina) played all 90 minutes facing three shots on goal with two saves.

Mount Union is back on the field Tuesday, October 3rd at home against Baldwin Wallace at 7:30 p.m.
