Women's Basketball: Mount Union Ends Season Against Capital with Career-High From Petrisko

ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Mount Union women's basketball team ended their season with a loss against Capital 65-60 Tuesday night in the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament Quarterfinals.

The Purple Raiders (15-11, 12-6 OAC) were led by junior guard Rachel Tinkey (Canfield/Canfield) who had 15 points and five rebounds. Alongside her was freshman center Rhiannon Petrisko (Richmond/Steubenville) who tabbed a career-high 12 points and four rebounds.

Capital (14-12, 9-9 OAC) was led by Erin Risner who scored 22 points.

Senior guard Casey Morrisette (Wakeman/Firelands) got the game off and running for the Raiders, scoring their first four points to make it 4-0 within the first two minutes of the game. Mount Union was able to get ahead by as much as five at 8-3 with 5:01 left in the first quarter, but Capital was able to spark a 11-5 run before closing out the quarter ahead 17-15.

Capital continued their run as they got the first two buckets in the second quarter to lead Mount Union 21-15 at 8:45, before going up 24-17 at 7:38. Guards Anna Alkire (Massillon/Jackson) and Morrissette combined for six points in a three and a three-point play off a layup to cut Capital's lead to 24-23 with 6:30 remaining, but Capital answered right back with six straight points of their own to be back up 30-23 at 5:25. Capital was able to increase their lead to eight to be ahead of Mount Union 38-30 going into halftime. 

A 5-0 run opened the third quarter in favor of Capital to push their lead to 43-30 with 8:35 still to play. Capital contained their lead for the remainder of the quarter as Mount Union was unable to break into their double-digit advantage. After being ahead by as much as 15, Capital would lead 53-42 at the end of the third quarter.

To start the fourth quarter, a 10-3 run fueled by five points from Tinkey cut into the once double-digit Capital lead to make it 56-52 with 6:42 on the clock. A bucket by Petrisko would make it a one possession game with Mount Union still trailing 56-54. After a basket by Capital, Tinkey sunk a deep three-pointer to get Mount Union within a point at 58-57 with 4:01 to play. In the final four minutes, Capital was able to land seven unanswered points until a last second three by Meghan Hess (Cranberry, Pa./Seneca Valley) etched the final score 65-60.

The Purple Raiders went 15-11 overall and closes the season with a 12-6 OAC record.
