NORTH RIDGEVILLE, Ohio – Mount Union's tennis team defeated Baldwin Wallace (9-2, 0-1 OAC) 5-4 in a tight OAC match on Friday afternoon.
The Purple Raiders (8-2, 2-0 OAC) were led by senior Kyle Hicken (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) as the match came down to his singles match against Baldwin Wallace's Alex Papke. Hicken won the first set 7-5 and then again in the third set, 10-3, after losing a tie breaker.
To start the match, the Raiders won two of three doubles matches in the all-freshmen pairings of Mark Beebe (Chardon/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) and Justin Kelley (Uniontown/Lake), and Antonio Massucci (Ashtabula/St. John) and Jacob Labonte (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep).
Baldwin Wallace caught up as they won three singles matches, taking two of them to a third set, but Mount Union was able to score their winning point in Hicken.
Mount Union will next continue OAC action at Muskingum on Tuesday, April 3 at 4:00 p.m.
