Women's Volleyball: 14-0 Mount Union Serves Hiram First Loss of Season

ALLIANCE, Ohio -- The Mount Union women's volleyball team served non-conference opponent Hiram (10-1) their first loss of the season in a 3-1 victory Tuesday night from the McPhearson Academic and Athletic Complex.

With their best start since 2013, the Purple Raiders are now 14-0.

The four-set win did not come easy, as Hiram came out swinging and ran away the first set 25-15. Mount Union went on to win in straight sets with scores of 25-21, 25-23 and 25-19.

Junior middle hitter Marlee Peck (Homeworth/Marlington) reached another career-high as she led the offense with 16 kills. Closely behind was freshman outside hitter Kirsten Powell (Strongsville/Strongsville) who struck a season-best of 12.

Peck was not only strong at the net with attacks, but also led the team in blocks with five.

Also reaching a career-high mark was junior setter Carly Stepic (Cleveland/Holy Name). Stepic dished out 44 assists for the Raiders' offense as only two of Mount Union's kills were unassisted.

Defending the back row for the Raiders was senior libero Allison Baird (North Royalton/North Royalton). In a tie for season-best, Baird collected 26 digs.

Mount Union is next in action at the Carnegie Mellon DoubleTree Invitational in Pittsburgh, Pa. on Septmeber 21-22.
