Men's Basketball: Bower-Malone's Career High Gives Raiders OAC Win over #6 Marietta

ALLIANCE, Ohio- Mount Union's men basketball team knocked off #6 nationally-ranked Marietta 107-70 in Ohio Athletic Conference play Wednesday night at the MAAC in Alliance, Ohio.

The Purple Raiders improve to 13-3 overall and 8-1 in the OAC while the loss drops Marietta to 14-2 overall and 8-1 in the OAC.

Mount Union was led by Senior Nathan Bower-Malone (Stow) with a career-high 36 points to go along with 10 assists and seven rebounds. Sophomore Collen Gurley (Akron / Hoban) kept his hot shooting going from the last game connecting on seven three's on his way to 23 points. Senior teammates D'Vontay Friga (Cuyahoga Falls) and Tanner Slack (New Concord / John Glenn ) finished with 14 and 11 points respectively.

Marietta was led by Madison Lydic with 20 points.

Marietta led 7-3 early on until a 9-0 that gave the Raiders a lead they did not give up the rest of the game. With 10:40 left in the first half Bower-Malone and Friga both scored five points each in a 10-0 run to give the Raiders a 30-17 lead. Bower-Malone then scored the next eight Mount Union points to stretch the lead to 38-24. Bower-Malone connected on six three's and six free throws in the first half to lead Mount Union with 24 points at the half with a lead of 52-37.

Gurley came out firing in the second half connecting on three three's to go along with two three's from slack to push the Radier lead out to 70-42 with 14:49 left. Bower-Malone gave Mount Union it's largest lead with 4:41 left on a layup to send the Radiers over 100 points with a 101-61 lead. 

Marietta came in to the contest outrebound teams by 11.7 rebounds but Mount Union held the advantage tonight with 38 boards to Marietta's 31. Mount Union ended with a season-high 23 assists and connected on 19 three-pointers.

Mount Union next heads to Wilmington on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 3 p.m. in Wilmington, Ohio.
