Box Score ALLIANCE, Ohio -- Mount Union men's basketball team used double-digit scoring from all five starters to defeat Ohio Northern 94-72 in Ohio Athletic Conference play Saturday afternoon.
Junior Collen Gurley (Akron / Hoban) had 24 points and nine rebounds as the Purple Raiders are now 3-0 overall, 3-0 in the OAC and have 22-straight games dating back to last season.
Junior Braedon Poole (McDonald) picked up a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds, junior Ethan Stanislawski (Massillon / Jackson) had 12 points and nine assists, junior Darrell Newsom (Twinsburg) had a career-high 14 points and senior Logan Hill (Massillon / Jackson) rounded the starters out with 13 points.
Ohio Northern (2-1, 2-1 OAC) was led by C.J. Napier who scored 19 points and had 10 rebounds.
The Purple Raiders never trailed and used six scorers to run out to a 19-4 lead in the game's opening 12 minutes. A Gurley three-pointer gave Mount Union a 23-8 lead but Polar Bears battled with an 18-5 run to close the gap to 31-26 with just over five minutes left before halftime. Mount Union finished the half on a 19-6 surge to lead 50-32 at the break.
The second half was more of the same and Northern rallied to 73-62 with 7:15 remaining but the Raiders followed by scoring eight of the next 10 points to put the game out of reach.
Mount Union next plays a two-game series with Otterbein next weekend with a game Friday, Feb. 5 at 7 p.m. in Westerville followed by a game Saturday, Feb. 6 at 6 p.m. in Alliance.
