NEW CONCORD, Ohio – Mount Union women's volleyball team defeated Muskingum Wednesday night in a score of 3-1 at the Anne C. Steele Center.

The set scores were 19-25, 25-20, 26-24 and 25-22 as Mount Union (16-4, 3-1 OAC) ended a five game skid to Muskingum(11-9, 2-2 OAC).

Freshman
Heaven Bartell (Cleveland / St. Joseph Academy led the offense with 15 kills.
Sophomore
Isabella Sprunger (North Royalton) and freshman
Darby Leininger (Chardon / Beaumont) both finished with double digit kills with 14 and 12.
Junior setters
Katie May (Brecksville / Independence) and
Mollie Thomas (Massillon / Massillon Perry) finished with 23 and 22 assists.

Junior libero
Alyssa Kasaris (North Royalton) finished with a team-high 29 digs while Thomas, May and Bartell finished with double digit kills as well.

The first set saw Muskingum jump out to a 11-2 lead which the Raiders brought within two points at a score of 20-18 but Muskingum closed out the game on a 5-1 run.

The second set saw the reversal with Mount Union jumping out to a 4-1 lead. The Raiders saw the lead get as big as 5 points three separate times with the last being from a ball handling error from Muskingum at 16-11. Muskingum got as close as 20-18 but Mount Union finished the set on a 5-2 run finished with a Bartell service ace.

The third set began with a run of three points for Muskingum and then Mount Union responded with four of its own to take a 4-3 lead. Mount Union tied the set up at 11 on a kill from Sprunger but a 7-1 run from Muskingum pushed its lead out to 18-12. The Raiders battled their way back and finished the set with a service ace from Thomas, block from senior
Maria Ellesin (Alliance / Marlington) and a kill from Bartell to take the set 26-24.

In the fourth set the teams traded the first 20 points straight until Mount Union scored on a Leininger kill and a Meyer Block to take a 11-10 lead. The largest lead of the set came on a kill from freshman
Catherine Klopp (Sycamore / Mohawk) to take a 16-13 lead. Muskingum went on a 6-1 run to take a 19-17 lead. Mount Union finished the set though on a 4-0 run to take the set 25-22.

Mount Union stays on the road to take on Capital in OAC play and Denison Saturday, October 16th at 11 a. m. and 1 p.m. in Bexley, Ohio.
