Purple Raiders Win Fifth Straight OAC Game

ALLIANCE, Ohio – Mount Union women's volleyball team defeated Marietta Wednesday night in Ohio Athletic Conference Play with a score of 3-0 at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.
 
The set scores were 25-17, 25-13, 25-14 as Mount Union (18-5, 5-1 OAC) pushes its OAC win streak to five straight as Marietta now sits at 5-15 overall and 2-4 in the OAC
 
Freshman Heaven Bartell (Cleveland / St. Joseph Academy) led the offense with 12 kills.
 
Freshman Darby Leininger (Chardon / Beaumont) finished with nine kills while senior Maria Ellesin (Alliance / Marlington) and freshman Alexis Meyer (Avon Lake) both finished with seven kills.
 
Junior setters Mollie Thomas (Massillon / Massillon Perry) and Katie May (Brecksville / Independence) finished with 23 and 17 assists.
 
Junior libero Alyssa Kasaris (North Royalton) finished with a game-high 19 digs while Thomas and Bartell finished with double digit digs with 12 and 10 respectively.
 
Marietta jumped out to a 5-2 lead but a 7-1 run from the Raiders with three kills from Leininger and two kills from Meyer and junior Isabella Sprunger (North Royalton) pushed the lead to 9-6. Both teams battled back and forth until Mount Union went on a 5-0 run finished with a May kill.

The second set Mount Union jumped out to a 14-3 lead. The set saw the Raiders hitting percentage be .290 while Marietta hit -.056. Mount Union ended the set on a 10-2 run finished by a hitting error from Marietta.

The final set the Raiders grabbed an early 3-1 lead. Both teams were tied and then a Mount Union 9-0 run pushed the lead out to 17-8 which the Raiders finished out the set with a kill from junior Natalie Zucco (North Royalton).

Mount Union plays its final home OAC game against Heidelberg which will be Senior Day on Saturday, October 23rd at 1 p.m.
