Box Score TIFFIN, Ohio – Mount Union's women's basketball team scored a season-high 89 points in an 89-58 win at Heidelberg in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup Friday in Seiberling Gymnasium.
After an 0-4 start, the Purple Raiders have now won three straight to stand at 3-4 overall and got a career-high 22 points, nine rebounds from junior forward Isi Palamone (Murrysville, Pa. / Franklin Regional).
Mount Union also got 14 points from senior guard Elena Rauhe (Seven Hills / Padua Franciscan) while sophomore Emma Cannon (Dalton) had 10 rebounds as the Raiders out-rebound Heidelberg, 43-24, with 21 of those coming as offensive rebounds.
Mount Union got out to a hot start in the first quarter by going up 9-0 after 1:30 of play. The Purple Raiders didn't let up as they outscored the Student Princes 22-13 after the first 10 minutes. The Raiders found their largest lead of the half at 20 points with 4:20 remaining in the half a layup by junior Layni Ziegler (Pittsburgh, Pa. Seton LaSalle) off a pass from Rauhe made it 37-17. The Student Princes began chipping at the Raider lead to go in to halftime down 13 at 50-26.
The Raiders kept pace out of the break going on a 13-0 run in the first five minutes of the third quarter. They managed to outscore the Student Princes 22-17 in the period to go into the fourth up 18 with 10 minutes remaining in the game. Mount Union scored 26 points in the final frame to rack up the 31-point win.
Heidelberg (1-6) was led by Karlee Mills who had 13 points.
The Purple Raiders and Student Princes continue their home-and-home series tomorrow at 6 p.m. in Alliance.
