Box Score WESTERVILLE, Ohio -- The No. 2 ranked Mount Union men's basketball team shook off a slow start to pick up an 89-72 win at Otterbein in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup Friday at the Rike Center.
Collen Gurley (Akron / Hoban) hit five three pointers and scored 24 points to lead five Purple Raiders in double digits as Mount Union moved to 4-0 (4-0 OAC) and won its 23rd game in a row.
Mount Union also got a pair of double-doubles from Ethan Stanislawski (Massillon / Jackson) with 13 points and 10 assists and Logan Hill (Massillon / Jackson) with 10 points and 11 rebounds while Darrell Newsom (Twinsburg) had 13 and Adam Chaney (Carrollton) came off the bench with 10 points.
Otterbein (0-1, 0-1 OAC) got a game-high 25 points from Dallas Patrick.
Patrick scored five points in the game's opening five minutes as the Cardinals ran out to a 15-7 lead. Mount Union battled back and Chaney layup with 6:50 to go before halftime gave the Raiders their first lead of the game at 29-28. Mount Union would finish the half on a 15-5 run to lead 44-33 at the break with Gurley scoring 13 in the period.
Gurley opened the second half with a three and the Raiders would take the lead to 23 points, 77-54, with 6:42 remaining before the 89-72 final.
The teams play the second of the two-game series Saturday at 6 p.m. in Alliance.
