Box Score ALLIANCE, Ohio -- The No. 2 ranked Mount Union men's basketball team picked up an 99-73 win against Otterbein in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup Saturday night at the MAAC.
Mount Union (5-0, 5-0 OAC) was led by a career-high 18 points from junior Darrell Newsom (Twinsburg) extending its win streak to five on the year and 24 straight counting back to Jan. 8, 2020 against Baldwin Wallace.
The Purple Raiders also got double digits from freshman Christian Parker (Canton GlenOak) with a career-high 17 points, junior Ethan Stanislawski (Massillon / Massillon Jackson) with 16 points on the night, junior Collen Gurley (Akron Hoban) scored 14 points and sophomore Chris Painter Jr. (Akron / St. Vincent St. Mary's) rounded out the double digit scoring with 10.
Otterbein (0-2, 0-2 OAC) got a game-high 27 points from Dallas Patrick.
Mount Union and Otterbein battled early with the game tied at 13 with 14:19 left in the first half. The Raiders went on a 8-0 finished with a Gurley three-point to take the lead to 21-13 with 12:31 remaining. Mount Union had another 6-0 run in a minute and 20 second stretch to take a 36-22 lead. Mount Union finished on an 11-4 with Stanislawski scoring the final four Raider points to put Mount Union up 47-30 into the half.
A Newsom slam dunk and an and-one from Parker gave the Raiders an 85-59 lead with 5:54 remaining before the 99-73 final.
Mount Union next plays a two-game series with Heidleberg next weekend with a game Friday, Feb. 12 at 7 p.m. at home followed by a game Saturday, Feb. 13 at 6 p.m. in Tiffin.
