Box Score 2 Alliance, Ohio - The Mount Union women's volleyball team (0-2, 0-2 OAC) dropped a pair in their Ohio Athletic Conference season opener against Otterbein (4-0, 4-0 OAC) with match scores of 3-0 and 3-1 Friday night at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.
In the first match, the Raiders struggled to get things started as they dropped the first set 25-13. They began to bounce back taking advantage of senior Madelin DiBease (Perry) eight kills, five digs, and two blocks but came up short in the remaining two sets 25-15 and 25-18. Defensively, sophomore libero Alyssa Kasaris (Weston / Otsego) led the Raiders in digs as she tallied 23 in the match.
In the second match the Raiders took advantage of the break as they had three in double digits offensively being DiBease with 19 kills followed by sophomore Isabella Sprunger (North Royalton) with 13, and junior Chase Filicko (Olmsted Falls / Gilmour Academy) with 11. Sophomore setter Katie May (Independence) led the way with 21 assists followed by sophomore Mollie Thomas (Massillon / Massillon Perry) with 19. Defensively, Kasaris led again this time tallying 30 digs. The Raiders rallied to take the first set 26-24, but were unable to secure the win as they dropped in the remaining three sets 25-22, 25-11, and 25-22.
The Raiders will continue OAC action as they travel north to University Heights to take on the Blue Streaks of John Carroll on Tuesday evening with matches set to begin at 6 and 8pm.
