UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – The Mount Union women's volleyball team (0-4, 0-4 OAC) dropped in thrilling five-set matches to the Blue Streaks of John Carroll University (2-2 2-2 OAC) in an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader matchup on Tuesday evening at Tony DeCarlo varsity center with match scores of 3-2 and 3-2.

Match One

The Purple Raiders had three in double-figure kills as sophomore Isabella Sprunger (North Royalton) led the team with 14 followed by senior Madelin DiBesase (Perry) with 12 and junior Maria Ellesin (Alliance / Marlington) with 10. Sophomore setter Mollie Thomas (Massillon / Massillon Perry) led the way with assists tallying up 23 on the match. Defensively, sophomore Alyssa Kasaris (North Royalton) took charge as she recorded 32 digs.

The Raiders trailed early in the first and second as the Blue Streaks got off to a quick start. They were able to rally back but were succumbed to the Blue Streaks 25-23 and 25-22. In set three the Raiders made a statement by taking off to a 9-3 lead and finished the set 25-19. The Raiders continued their dominance as they were able to secure the fourth set 25-22 to force the fifth set. Back-and-forth points kept each team close, however, the Blue Streaks were able to pull away near the end and secure the 3-2 win in set five with a score of 15-10.

Match Two

The Raiders again had Sprunger, DiBease, and Ellesin in double-digit kills as they secured 14, 13, and 11 respectively. Sophomore Katie May (Independence) led the way with assists with 22 followed by Thomas who had 20. Defensively, Kasaris led the way with 27 digs followed by Thomas who had 25 on the match.

Rallied back in set one to come back 19-18 and force a Blue Streak timeout, and keep it tied until John Carroll takes advantage of back-to-back points to finish the first set 25-23. Raiders were in control in set two as the Blue Streaks came back within one at 20-19. The Raiders eventually got the victory off a kill by sophomore setter Katie May (Independence) with a score of 25-22. Raiders win back-to-back sets making a statement with a 25-15 win in set three. The Blue Streaks were able to answer right back as they claimed set four 25-14. The Raiders dropped again in a set five heartbreaker 15-13 as the Blue Streaks claimed the second match 3-2.
