ALLIANCE, Oh – The Mount Union men's soccer team picked up a 5-0 win over Hiram on Wednesday night.
The Raiders (4-0-1) got off to a quick start when senior
Rylan Wikle (Olmsted Falls) found senior
Colton Priester (Painesville / Riverside) in the 4
th minute for the first goal of the night. Junior
Gavin Velazquez (Amherst / Steele) scored in the 32
nd minute to extend the lead to 2-0. Then in the 44
th minute sophomore
Jarrett Lukacsko (Gahanna / Gahanna Lincoln) netted his first career goal, with sophomore
Ryan Pappas (Wadsworth) picking up the assist.
Senior
Xavier Pinaya (Monclova / Anthony Wayne) got the second half going with a goal in the 51
st minute. Junior
Zach Minor (Uniontown / Lake) added a goal in the 85
th minute off an assist from senior
Gabe Obrist (Beaver, Pa.).
The Raiders scored five goals in a game for the first time since 2018.
The "Purple Wall" defense recorded its fourth straight shutout and has now held opponents scoreless for the last 386:24 of game time. Senior goalkeeper
Mikey Contreras (Fremont / Fremont Ross) recorded five saves in the shutout victory.
This is the Raiders first streak of at least four shutouts since 2019.
The Raiders are back in action on Saturday, September 18 at 1 p.m. in Washington, Pa. against Washington and Jefferson College.
