#11 Raiders Win Sixth Straight

Skeriotis Scores Career High 21-points

ALLIANCE, Ohio – Mount Union's men's basketball team, ranked No. 11 in the nation beat Ohio Northern in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup 93-71 on Saturday evening.

The Purple Raiders (16-2, 9-2 OAC) had five players score in double figures, freshman Michael Skeriotis (North Canton / Massillon Jackson) led the way with a career-high 21 points on 7-of-7 shooting. Sophomore Christian Parker (Canton / GlenOak) had a double-double scoring 18 points and grabbing 12 rebounds, with senior Ethan Stanislawski (Massillon / Jackson) adding 12. Seniors Darrell Newsom (Twinsburg) and Braedon Poole (McDonald) each added 11 to round out the Raiders double digit scorers.

The Polar Bears (8-9, 2-8 OAC) were led by CJ Napier who scored a game-high 23 points.

Mount Union and Ohio Northern both got off to hot starts each making their first three shots from the field. With 8:11 remaining in the first half a three by senior Julian Berry (Girard) sparked a 22-3 run over the next 6:07 to give the Raiders a 47-26 lead with just over two minutes remaining in the first half. The Polar Bears answered with an 8-2 run to close out the first half but trailed 49-34 heading into the break.

The Raiders and Polar Bears traded baskets over the first eight and a half minutes of the second half before a driving layup by Poole started a 14-0 run over the next 3:09 to give Mount Union a 29-point 76-47 lead with 8:47 left in the game. Ohio Northern was able to cut the lead down to 18 with 2:31 remaining in the game but that is the closest they would get as Mount Union would go on to win 93-71.

Mount Union hits the road next as they will travel to Berea on Wednesday, February 2 to take on Baldwin Wallace in an OAC matchup at 7 p.m.
