WOOSTER, Ohio – The No. 7 nationally ranked Mount Union men's basketball team defeated Wooster 94-76 in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday night.
The Purple Raiders (5-0) had four players score in double figures, with junior
Christian Parker (Canton / GlenOak) leading the way with a game-high 21 points. Senior Jeffery Mansfield (Wilmington) scored a season-high 19 points, with seniors Collen Gurley (Akron / Hoban) and
Darrell Newsom (Twinsburg) scoring 17 and 13 respectively to round out Mount Union's double-digit scorers.
The Fighting Scots (2-1) were led by Najee Hardaway who scored a team high 14 points and Jamir Billings who added in 13 points.
The Raiders and the Scots went back and forth over the first five minutes of action before a layup by freshman Corey Hudson (Columbus / Pickerington) sparked a quick 7-2 run to give Mount Union a 21-14 lead with 13:12 remaining in the first half. Wooster would answer over the next five and a half minutes, tying the game at 27 with just under eight minutes to go in the half. The Raiders would then go on a 21-9 run over the final 7:46 of the half to take a 48-36 lead into the break.
Mount Union would open the second half on a 10-2 run to extend their lead to 20 with 17:23 left to play. The Scots would cut the lead down to 13 with just over 13 minutes remaining in the game but that's the closest they would get as the Raiders would go on to win 94-76.
The Raiders hit the road again next when they travel to Tiffin, Ohio to take on Heidelberg in their Ohio Athletic Conference opener on Saturday, December 3 at 2 p.m.
