NEW CONCORD, Ohio – Mount Union's men's basketball team, ranked No. 10 in the nation beat Muskingum in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup 82-61 on Wednesday night.
The Purple Raiders (20-3, 13-3 OAC) had four players score in double figures with senior
Braedon Poole (McDonald) leading the way with 24 points, tying his career high. Senior
Ethan Stanislawski (Massillon / Jackson) added 14 points, with senior
Darrell Newsom (Twinsburg) and junior
Chris Painter Jr. (Akron / St. Vincent-St. Mary) each adding 13.
The Fighting Muskies (5-19, 2-15 OAC) were led by Alex Masinelli who scored a team high 24 points.
Mount Union and Muskingum traded baskets over the first seven minutes of the game, before a layup by Poole would spark a 10-4 run over the next 4:37 to give the Raiders a 23-16 lead with 8:07 remaining in the first half. Mount Union would maintain their seven-point lead over the Muskies over the next four minutes when a layup by Painter started a 14-6 run over the final four minutes of the first half to give the Raiders a 43-29 lead going into the break.
Mount Union opened the second half on a 12-6 run over the first four minutes to stretch their lead to 20. The Muskies were able to cut the Raider lead down to 16 with 2:27 left in the game but that is the closest they would get as Mount Union would go on to win 82-61.
The Raiders hit the road again next as they travel to Westerville to take on Otterbein on Saturday, February 19 at 4 p.m.
