Mount Union Travels to Marietta in OAC Tourney - GAME PREVIEW

Match-Up
No. 3 seed Marietta hosts No. 6 seed Mount Union in the quarterfinals of the Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Tournament Tuesday at 6 p.m. in Ban Johnson Arena in Marietta.

Tickets
The women's game is set for 6:00 p.m. and will be followed by the men's game at 8:00 p.m. or 30 minutes following the conclusion of the women's game. The doubleheader will be treated as a single session; meaning tickets are good for both games. Ban Johnson Arena will NOT be cleared between games.

The doors will open at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday for the 6:00 p.m. tip off of the women's game. There will be no re-admittance to the facility.

Teams

The Purple Raiders (9-13, 6-10 OAC) enter the tournament having won three of their last five games. 

Marietta (21-4, 14-4 OAC) has won five of its last six games and the Pioneers also swept the regular season meetings with Mount Union winning 70-67 in Alliance and 58-33 in Marietta.

Marietta is second in the OAC scoring with 69.3 points per game while Mount Union is seventh and averages 59.2 points but the Raiders are the top offensive rebounding team in the conference at 15.2 rebounds per game while Marietta is a close second averaging 15.0 rebounds per game. 

Mount Union junior Emma Cannon (Dalton) leads the Raiders and is fourth in the OAC in scoring at 13.4 points per game and also tops the conference in free throw percentage at 90-percent. Senior Isi Palamone (Murrysville, Pa. / Franklin Regional) is team's top rebounder at 6.8 per game which is fifth in the conference while senior Corenna Maynard (Chagrin Falls / Kenston) leads the team with 1.7 assists per game.

Marietta's Olivia Gribble leads the Pioneers in scoring with 10.3 points per game while Erin Hahn is third in rebounds per game in the OAC with 8.0 per game.

OAC Tournament History
It is the 33rd OAC Tournament appearance for Mount Union as the Raiders have a 30-27 record and won titles in 1998, 2011, 2012 and 2016.

Marietta is making its 27th OAC Tournament appearance with a 6-26 record in tournament games and the Pioneers have won one OAC title in 2018.

Mount Union and Marietta have met three previous times in the tournament with the Raiders winning two of those matchups.

The winner advances to Thursday's OAC Semifinals playing the winner of the No. 2 Baldwin Wallace versus No.7 Muskingum/No.10 Heidelberg. The highest seed in the matchup will host the game.

Coaches
Suzy Venet (Mount Union '98) is 274-170 (.617) in her 17th season at her alma mater.  She has led the Raiders to four OAC Tournament titles, two OAC regular season titles with four trips to the NCAA Tournament including making it to the Sweet 16 in 2010 and 2012. She has 285 career coaching wins including a season as head coach at Manchester (Ind.) and also had assistant coaching stints at Minnesota State and Bowling Green.

Kole Vivian (Wisconsin-Stevens Point '08) is 99-49 (.667) in his sixth season at Marietta and has led the Pioneers to their only OAC Tournament title in 2018.
