BEREA, Ohio – No. 6-seed Mount Union fell to No. 2-seed Baldwin Wallace 63-51 in the semifinals of the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament Thursday night at Upsprung Gymnasium.
The Purple Raiders (10-14) were led by junior
Emma Cannon (Dalton) scoring 14 points.
Senior
Corenna Maynard (Chagrin Falls / Kenston) finished the night with nine points.
Baldwin Wallace (20-4) was led by Lily Edwards scoring 27 points.
Baldwin Wallace began the game on a 6-2 run with Mount Union responding and tying the game up at 10 with a three-pointer from junior
Kelsie Glass (Green). The Raiders took the lead briefly with a layup from sophomore
Maddy Miles (Brunswick Hills / Pauda Franciscan) 12-10. Baldwin Wallace finished the first quarter on a 9-5 run to have a 19-17 lead.
Mount Union got within four points with 3:49 remaining in the second quarter but a 7-0 run by Baldwin Wallace pushed the lead out to 36-25 going into halftime.
The Raiders down 38-28 in the third quarter got a 7-0 run to get back with three 38-35 with five minutes remaining in the quarter. Baldwin Wallace responded with an 11-3 run to the period up 49-38.
Mount Union got within eight points with 4:42 remaining on a Cannon layup but could not close the gap anymore as Baldwin Wallace lengthened the lead back to 12.
Mount Union finishes the season with a record of 10-14 and advanced to the OAC tournament semifinals for the second consecutive season.
