ALLIANCE, Ohio -- Mount Union's women's track and field team broke two school record and an OAC record and had multiple All-conference finishes after day one of the 2022 Ohio Athletic Conference Championships Friday night.

Mount Union grabbed 78 points in the seven events contested on day one which leaves them four points behind first place John Carroll.

The Purple Raiders got the day started off with an OAC and school record in the long jump with sophomore
Lauren Roncone (North Canton / Hoover) winning with a jump of 19-feet 3.25-inches good for second in Division III. Junior
Kennady Gibbins (Navarre / Fairless) finished with All-OAC honors grabbing second with a jump of 18-feet 6.5-inches.

Kenadee Wayt (Wheeling, W.Va. / Wheeling Central Catholic) broke the OAC and school record in the 60-meter prelim running 7.62 qualifying to the finals tomorrow and currently sitting third in the nation.

Wayt picked up a victory in the 400-meters earlier running a 57.33 which is good for eighth in the nation. Teammate sophomore
Madison Miles (Brunswick Hills / Padua Franciscan) picked up All-OAC honors in the 400-meters with a second place finish with a time of 59.31.

The Purple Raiders got three more all-conference awards (top three performers) with senior
Emily Phillips (Chardon) placing second in the pole vault, the distance medley relay quartet of juniors
Julia Henderson (Twinsburg),
Angela DeFabio (Twinsburg),
Megan Wertz (Canton / GlenOak) and sophomore
Gianini Venuto (Ravenna / Southeast) finished second and freshman
Mary Mason (Alliance / Marlington) placing third in the 500-meters.

There were two prelims today in the 60-meter hurdles where Mount Union had four qualifiers to tomorrow led by senior
Michaelina Terranova (North Jackson / Jackson-Milton).

The other prelim was the 60-meter dash where Wayt leads a group of four into the finals tomorrow.

The final day of the meet begins at 10 a.m. Saturday.
