PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Mount Union Men's Volleyball team split a pair of games at the Steel City Freeze Tournament Sunday afternoon.
In the first match Mount Union (1-4) fell to Nazareth (N.Y.) (12-1) in five sets 19-25, 25-27, 25-21, 25-21 and 10-15.
Leading the Purple Raider was junior
Luke Trzeciak (Cranberry, Pa. / Seneca Valley) who finished with 15 kills. Senior
Sam Matonis (Macedonia / Walsh Jesuit) and junior
Andrew Cross (St. Louis, Mo. / St. Louis University High) finished with double digit kills with 13 and 10 respectively.
Freshman setter
Will Heeney (Hudson / Walsh Jesuit) and sophomore setter
Caleb Dawson (Harmony, Pa. / Seneca Valley) finished with 22 and 20 assists.
Senior libero
Steven Grenier (Hawthorn Woods, Ill. / Lake Zurich) had a game-high 19 digs while and junior outside hitter
Cameron Ternent (Canal Fulton / Massillon Jackson) picked up 13 digs.
The second game Mount Union picked up its first win of the season sweeping Thiel (Pa.) (1-6) 25-14, 25-16, 26-24.
Trzeciak had a game-high 15 kills for the Raiders while Ternent picked up double digit kills with 13.
Dawson finished with a game-high 18 assists with Heeney assisting on 14 Mount Union points.
Ternent led the Raiders in digs with five while Trzeciak put together five aces.
Mount Union heads on the road next Friday, February 11 at 8 p.m. taking on Aurora (Ill.) in Aurora, Ill.
