ALLIANCE, Ohio – Mount Union's men's basketball team, ranked No. 10 in the nation lost an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup to nationally ranked No. 2 Marietta 84-64 on Wednesday night.
The Purple Raiders (18-3, 11-3 OAC) had three double digit scorers with sophomore
Christian Parker (Canton / GlenOak) leading the way with 16 points. Freshman
Michael Skeriotis (North Canton / Massillon Jackson) added 13 points and junior
Chris Painter Jr. (Akron / St. Vincent-St. Mary) scored 10 points to round out the Raiders in double figures.
The Pioneers (19-2, 14-0 OAC) were led by Sahmi Willoughby who scored a game high 25 points and Tim Kreeger who added 17.
Marietta opened the game on a 29-8 run over the first 11:26 to take a 21-point lead over Mount Union. The Raiders responded with a quick 6-2 run to cut the lead down to 17, but the Pioneers would answer with a 12-4 run over the final 3:31 of the first half to take a 43-18 lead into halftime.
Mount Union was able to cut the Pioneer lead down to 20 at multiple points in the second half but that is the closest they would be able to get as Marietta would go on to win 84-64.
The Raiders hit the road next as they travel to Columbus to take on Capital on Saturday, February 12 at 4 p.m.
