CLEVELAND, Ohio – Mount Union's softball team split a doubleheader with Case Western Reserve on Tuesday evening winning game one 3-2 and falling in game two 3-0.
The Purple Raiders (7-7) struck first in the top of the first when a sacrifice fly from freshman
Amanda Bish (Mercer, Pa.) scored junior
Grace Heath (Beloit / West Branch). The Spartans (3-6) would come back to tie the game in the bottom of the first when KaiLi Gross scored on an error.
Both teams would go scoreless until Amanda Riely hit a solo homerun to give Case Western Reserve a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth. Mount Union would answer in the top half of the seventh reclaiming the lead off a two-run homerun from senior
Alyssa Rose (Madison), the Raiders would hold on in the bottom of the seventh to take a 3-2 victory.
Senior
Peyton Morrison (Canton / GlenOak) pitched a complete game for the Raiders, allowing just two runs on four hits and struck out six to pick up her second win on the season.
In game two the Spartans got off to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Gross hit a solo homerun. The Spartans would add a second run in the first inning and then add another in the bottom half of the fourth to take a 3-0 lead. The Raiders couldn't get anything going offensively and would fall 3-0.
Junior
Megan Zody (Westerville / Westerville Central) got the start in the circle for Mount Union and pitched a complete game giving up three runs, two earned, on four hits and struck out two.
The Raiders hit the road again next as they take on Hiram on Friday, March 18 in a doubleheader with the first game starting at 3 p.m. in Hiram, Ohio.
