WASHINGTON, Pennsylvania – Mount Union's women's lacrosse team defeated Washington & Jefferson 20-8 Wednesday night at Alexandre Stadium.
Eden Kesler (Chargin Falls / Kenston) had five goals and an assist while
Sydney Bumbarger (Newbury Park, Calif.) had five goals.
Katie Clark (Hudson / Walsh Jesuit) had a game-high seven points with four goals and three assists while
Mackenzie Kolstad (Victor, N.Y. / Victor Senior) and
Sam Karr (Newark, Del. / Newark Charter) each scored two goals and had two assists as seven different Purple Raiders (2-0) cracked the scoring column.
Washington & Jefferson (0-2) was led by Amanda Effland who scored five goals.
Mount Union began the game with goals from three different players in Kesler, Bumbarger and Kolstad. Washington & Jefferson responded with two goals of its own, but Clark got the Raiders back on the board with a goal to take a 4-2 lead into the second quarter.
Mount Union outscored Washington & Jefferson 9-3 in the second quarter with three goals from Kessler and Clark, two goals from Karr and a goal from Bumbarger.
The Raiders held Washington & Jefferson to just three goals in the second half while scoring seven more. Bumbarger scored three while Kolstad, Kesler,
Ashley Carr (Livonia, N.Y. / Livonia) and
Julia Bates (East Lyme, Conn.) each scored one goal.
The Raiders continue on the road playing against Allegheny, Wednesday, March 16 at 5 p.m. in Meadville, Pa.
