Raiders Slip and Slide To Road Victory

OBERLIN, Ohio – Mount Union's women's lacrosse team defeated Oberlin 16-12 on a rain-soaked Wednesday afternoon at Austin E. Knowlton Athletics Complex and Dick Bailey Field.
 
Julia Bates (East Lyme, Conn. / East Lyme) had five goals while Sydney Bumbarger (Newbury Park, Calif.) scored four goals to lead the Purple Raiders (3-2).
 
Mount Union's Katie Clark (Hudson / Walsh Jesuit) had a game-high seven points with one goal and six assists while Ashley Carr (Livonia, N.Y. / Livonia) and Sam Karr (Newark, Del. / Newark Charter) also each had two goals.
 
Oberlin (2-5) was led by Audrey Koren who scored three goals.
 
Mount Union began the game with goals from Bates, Carr and Eden Kesler (Chargin Falls / Kenston) to jump out to a 3-0 lead. Oberlin responded with a 4-0 run but a personal 3-0 run from Bumbarger gave the Raiders a 6-4 lead after one quarter of play.
 
Oberlin came out in the second quarter scoring the first five goals.  Karr and Bates each scored to put Mount Union down 9-8 going into the halftime break.
 
In the third quarter, Mount Union goals from Bates, Clark and Mackenzie Kolstad (Victor, N.Y. / Victor Senior) while holding Oberlin to just one score as Mount Union surged ahead 11-10.
 
Oberlin scored the first goal of the fourth quarter, but Mount Union finished the game on a 5-1 run with two goals from Bates and a goal each from Bumbarger, Karr and Carr for the 16-12 final
 
The Raiders begin Ohio Athletic Conference play, Saturday, March 26 at 11 a.m. as they host Ohio Northern at Mount Union Stadium.
