ALLIANCE, Ohio – Mount Union Men's Volleyball team fell to Fontbonne (Mo.) 22-25, 25-17, 23-25 and 18-25, in a rematch of last year's MCVL championship game, Friday night at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.
Leading the Purple Raiders (9-11, 5-1 MCVL) was
Cameron Ternent (Canal Fulton / Massillon Jackson) with 10 kills while
Sam Matonis (Macedonia / Walsh Jesuit) finished with nine kills.
Setter
Will Heeney (Hudson / Walsh Jesuit) finished with 23 assists while
Jeremy Leyden (Cuyahoga Falls / Hoban) finished with 12 assists.
Ternent and libero
Steven Grenier (Hawthorn Woods, Ill. / Lake Zurich) finished with six digs each.
The first set saw both teams make five hitting errors while Fontbonne (16-5, 5-0 MCVL) had 14 kills two more kills then Mount Union with 12.
The Raiders came out in the second set hitting .259 with 13 kills and six errors with Fontbonne committing seven errors with just nine kills.
Mount Union in the third set had 12 kills with just three four errors but Fontbonne finished with 19 kills and six hitting errors.
The final set had Fontbonne hitting its best percentage at .357 with 15 kills and five errors while Mount Union finished with nine kills and six errors.
The Raiders will return to conference play tomorrow taking on Wabash at 1 p.m. with Mount Union honoring its four graduating seniors before play.
