AUBURNDALE, Fla. – Mount Union's baseball team's bats came alive as the Purple Raiders scored a season-high 13 runs in a 13-1, 7-inning, win over Anna Maria (Mass.) Sunday at Lake Myrtle Park.
Anna Maria (2-2) did push a run across in the top of the first for an early 1-0 lead but the Raiders (3-4) got two in the bottom of the first on a Trey Weaver (Franklin, Pa. / Franklin Area) sacrifice fly and an Eric Schilling (Stow / Stow-Munroe Falls) single.
Mount Union blew the game open with a five-run second as Weaver had an RBI double, Nate Duliba (Berea / Berea-Midpark) had an RBI single, and the Raiders took advantage of a pair of Am Cats errors to lead 7-1.
The Raiders put the game away with a three-run fifth – an RBI double from Duliba and a two-run single from Weaver along with a three-run sixth as Mount Union cashed in two runs on two more Anna Maria errors and John Razzante (Mayfield) had a sacrifice fly.
Duliba finished with three hits, scored three runs and drove in two, while Weaver drove in four runs on two hits.
This was all more than enough offense for Mount Union starter Thomas Gallant (Pataskala / Watkins Memorial) held Anna Maria to just a run on three hits and struck out 11 in a complete game to get his first win of the season.
Mount Union is back in action Monday with a game against St. Joseph (Me.) at 9:30 a.m. at Lake Myrtle Park.
