Raiders Fall Behind Then Comeback For Win

17 hits in win for Mount Union

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – Mount Union's baseball team fell behind seven runs before rallying for a 13-7 win over St. Joseph (Maine) Monday at Lake Myrtle Park.

St. Joseph (1-3) scored seven runs in the bottom of the first with the big hits coming on a Jonathan Dube grand slam home run and a solo home run by Peter O'Brien.

Mount Union (4-4) got on the board in the fourth with two runs on an RBI double from Coleman Stauffer (Boardman) and an RBI single from Alex Stegman (Berea / Berea-Midpark).

The Purple Raiders came all the way back in the fifth inning with six runs on five hits. Trey Weaver (Franklin, Pa. / Franklin Area), Thomas Gallant (Pataskala / Watkins Memorial) and Stauffer all had RBI singles, a run scored on a wild pitch and Stegman had an RBI groundout and Mount Union led 8-7.

Mount Union added to its lead with two more in the sixth on run scoring singles from Nate Duliba (Berea / Berea-Midpark) and Gallant to make it 10-7.

The Raiders finished the scoring with two in the eighth off an error and a Stauffer sacrifice fly then one more in the ninth on a Weaver sacrifice fly.

Mount Union belted out 17 hits as Walker Marlowe (Berlin Center / Western Reserve) went 4-for-6 in the leadoff spot and scored three runs. Duliba had three hits, while Weaver, Brian Livolsi (McMurray, Pa. / Peters Township), Gallant, Stauffer and Stegman all had two hits.

Chuck Hawley (Mentor) came on in relief for Mount Union in the first inning, gave up two runs, but ended up striking out 11 over the next 8.2 innings and got his first win of the season.

Mount Union is back in action Thursday at 3:30 p.m. with a doubleheader against Rhode Island College at Lake Myrtle Park.
