ALLIANCE, Ohio – Mount Union's men's volleyball team defeated Hiram College in four sets 21-25, 25-13, 25-22, 25-12 on Wednesday night.
The Purple Raiders (7-7, 4-0 MCVL) have now won six straight matches and had three men in double-digit kills led by senior
Sam Matonis (Macedonia / Walsh Jesuit) who finished with 13 kills.
Junior
Andrew Cross (St. Louis, Mo. / St. Louis University High) finished with 12 kills and junior
Luke Trzeciak (Cranberry, Pa. / Seneca Valley) had 11.
Freshaman
Will Heeney (Hudson / Walsh Jesuit) finished with a game-high 25 assists while senior
Jeremy Leyden (Cuyahoga Falls / Hoban) finished with 16 assists.

Cameron Ternent (Canal Fulton / Massillon Jackson) tied for a game-high 11 digs.
Mount Union jumped out to an early 7-2 lead. Hiram later had a 5-0 run to get within a point at 11-10. The Raiders extended their lead back out to four, but an 8-1 run gave Hiram its first lead of the set at 18-15. Mount Union got within one on two occasions but could not regain the lead to finish the set.
In the second set the Raiders had two separate 7-1 runs while having 16 kills on just two errors taking the second set 25-13.
Mount Union began the third set on a 5-0 run, but Hiram responded with a 6-1 run to tie the game up at 6. Mount Union slowly lengthened the lead out to 15-10 but another 5-0 run by Hiram tied the game at 15. Mount Union finished the set out on four separate 2-0 runs to take the set.
The Raiders used a 14-3 run in the middle of set four to take a commanding lead of 19-9. Mount Union used a 6-2 run to finish the set off an take a 3 to 1 set victory over Hiram.
The Raiders return to play taking on Campbellsville (Ky.) and Mount Vernon Nazarene on Saturday, March 12 at noon and 2:30 p.m in Mount Vernon, Ohio.
