Raiders Win Regular Season Finale In Five Sets

ANGOLA, Indiana – Mount Union men's volleyball team defeated Trine (Ind.) in five sets (21-25, 25-19, 25-18, 23-25 and 15-12) in the regular season Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League finale.
 
The Purple Raiders (12-11, 7-1 MCVL) were led by Andrew Cross (St. Louis, Mo. / St. Louis University High) who had 16 kills with a hitting percentage of .538. Cameron Ternent (Canal Fulton / Massillon Jackson) and Luke Trzeciak (Cranberry, Pa. / Seneca Valley) finished with 14 kills in the match.
 
Will Heeney (Hudson / Walsh Jesuit) had a career-high 47 assists while Steven Grenier (Hawthorn Woods, Ill. / Lake Zurich) finished with a game-high 15 digs.

Trine (12-13, 4-4 MCVL) was led by Ted Hofmeister with 18 kills.
 
Set one the Raiders had 10 kills on seven errors for a hitting percentage of .094 while Trine connected on 15 kills with nine errors for a hitting percentage of .158 and took the set 25-21.
 
Mount Union took set two 25-19 with just one hitting error in the second set with 16 kills for a hitting percentage of .600 as Trine had three errors with 15 kills and a .462 hitting percentage.
 
Set three went the way of the Raiders again hitting over .500 for the set with 17 kills and two errors while Trine had 11 kills and six hitting errors.
 
Mount Union looked to closed out the match in the fourth set, but Trine won the set 25-23. Trine had 14 kills with seven errors while Mount Union had 13 kills and seven errors.
 
The Raiders closed out the fifth set having six kills on three errors while Trine had three kills and committed three errors.
 
Mount Union clinched the number two seed in the MCVL tournament and will take on the number three seed Mount Saint Joseph Friday, April 8 at 4 p.m. central time / 5 p.m. eastern time in Saint Louis, Mo.
